Hello everyone, I thought I’d share a condensed version of my story so far.
A lady once said to me, “Libby you were born to paint!” I guess she was right as I’m now into my 30th year as a professional artist.
My childhood was spent between living in a Cornish fishing village and a town in Australia. I can remember watching my parents paint and I often joined in. Art then was my favorite subject at school.
As a young adult my path took me to Ontario in Canada, where I started a family and studied fine art. My life suddenly took me back to Cornwall where I continued creating fun and colourful paintings in watercolor and acrylic.
As with my ever changing style, my location was about to change again too. Back to Canada we go! To the Rocky mountains, where we reopened a Canadian ‘Arty Farty’. From there my paintings found loving homes all around the world.
There I felt I came alive! The mountains, trees, rivers and abundant wildlife gave me inspiration galore, not to mention the positive, wonderful comments of the people who came through the door. The laughter at my whimsical animals, the emotions that many people had towards me and my creations was awesome!
These are a sample of comments left in my visitors book, “Tonnes of personality!” “Fantastically versatile.” “Libby rocks!” But my favourite comment of all is,
“If I had money and a house I would totally buy your paintings!”
Our kid’s grew up and we became sad empty nesters. To cheer ourselves up we headed to France for a holiday. Where my husband and I fell in love with an ancient old house in the countryside covered with roses and wisteria.
So here we are, relaxing in Brittany or being creative at my studio in Calgary where I'm enjoying painting Canadian wildlife and local scenes. I have also discovered a new passion for traditional upholstery and floor painting!
I wonder what the next thing will be……… It’s been a pleasure so far,
Libby.
